George Kovacs and bright lights

One of my passions is quizzing. I come across a variety of information on just about anything. I thought I would share one such information with you all.

Basically, I love art and consider the artists be it contemporary or classical as pure geniuses. They are in a world that is beyond our normal life yet they make our lives interesting and beautiful in their own ways. One such artist is George Kovacs, a designer, manufacturer and importer of innovative and stylish modern lighting fixtures who introduced the ubiquitous halogen torchiere in the USA.

Kovacs was born in Vienna in 1926, which makes him a contemporary genius. Starting in a small manner, he made his way from rags to riches. Today, his name is one of the most recognizable in lighting. Mr. Kovacs is famous for his desk lamps, fine art lamps, pendant fixtures, mini-pendants, floor lamps, desk lamps, picture lights and wall scones. He also marketed the products of other acclaimed designers, including Ingo Maurer, Harry Allen, Karim Rashid, Robert Sonneman and Alecia Wesner.

Kovacs made a name for himself and a name that not many will tend to forget when it comes to innovation and lighting fixtures. The name stands - George Kovacs lightings and George Kovacs lamps is almost a prefix that's taken for granted. George Kovacs died in 2007 at the age of 80, but his name will be lit in glory forever...
